What is the Vitalize peel?

The Vitalize peel is a superficial peel designed to improve the texture and appearance of skin.

What are the ingredients in the Vitalize peel?

The main ingredients are salicylic acid, resorcinol, lactic acid and retinoic acid.

What will I look like after the peel?

Your skin will feel tighter and appear a little red as though you have been in the sun. Your skin may feel tacky and have a yellowish orange tint that subsides in a few hours. This is due to the retinoic acid applied to the skin.

How long will my skin be red after the peel?

The redness subsides almost immediately and leaves the skin with a brighter, more refreshed look.

Will the peel burn my skin?

No, the Vitalize peel is self-limiting it will only reach a certain depth of the skin. The Vitalize peel does not require neutralizing and will not burn the skin.

Who can benefit from the Vitalize peels?

The Vitalize peel treats photodamaged skin, fine lines, wrinkles, pigment abnormalities, superficial scarring, melasma and acne.

When will my skin start to peel and for how long?

Peeling will generally start 48-72 hours after your treatment and can last 2-5 days. It is very important not to pick off peeling skin; peeling is minimal and easily controlled with a gentle moisturizer or ointment. Premature peeling of the skin will result in dry, cracked, or raw skin that may develop into hyperpigmentation.

How do I take care for my skin after the peel?

Use a gentle cleanser to wash your face. Scrubs and washcloths should be avoided while your skin is peeling. Use a hydrating fragrance-free moisturizer or Aquaphor at least twice a day. This prevents dryness and helps control peeling. It's best to avoid prolonged sun exposure for 1-week post peel. It is important to wear an SPF 30 broad-spectrum sunscreen every day.

How long will the effects of the Vitalize peel last?

Aging is a natural phenomenon; as long as you're alive you will continue to age. A single Vitalize peel can reverse some of the visible signs of aging. Depending upon how much sun damage you have you may need more than one Vitalize peel. Since aging continues you will need to do peels periodically. We will evaluate your skin and design an individualized program that is best for you.

Can I use anti-aging products along with the Vitalize peel?

We recommend that you use specific anti-aging products along with the Vitalize peel to enhance the benefits.

Can I exercise after the Vitalize peel?

Exercise that produces a lot of heavy sweating should be avoided the day of the Vitalize peel. You may resume all regular activities the next day.

How long after receiving a Vitalize peel can I go in the sun?

It is important to avoid direct sun exposure for one week after the Vitalize peel. We suggest that you wear an SPF 30 broad-spectrum sunscreen when you do go in the sun. One containing a high concentration of zinc oxide or titanium dioxide is preferred.

Is the Vitalize peel the best peel to clear up my acne?

One of the active ingredients in these peels is salicylic acid, which is used to treat acne. Salicylic acid is a comedolytic agent which means it helps unclog the pores. This agent is lipid soluble and therefore penetrates through the sebum of acne-prone skin better than water-soluble acids. Also, salicylic acid has anti-inflammatory properties since it is related to aspirin so it helps decrease redness. In addition, retinoic acid inhibits sebum production making the skin less oily. It also decreases hyperpigmentation and helps unclog pores. It can help prevent new acne bumps from forming.

How often can I have the Vitalize peel?

Subsequent Vitalize peels may be repeated every 3 to 4 weeks. There is no limit to the number of Vitalize peels a person can receive as long as improvement continues.
